At the Legacy Arena, Birmingham, Alabama, Deontay Wilder and Johann Duhaupas weighed in for their WBC Heavyweight championship bout. Champ Wilder, who’ll be making his second defense, came in at 228.6 pounds, while challenger Duhaupas came in at 236.
Wilder was of course the slightly taller of the two, and the more chiselled, but Duhaupas was by no means dwarfed. Say what you want about the guy’s chances, but he at least matches Wilder for size, and will even enter the ring the slightly heavier man tonight.
Do with that what you will.
Wilder comes to the fight unbeaten with 24 wins and 33 knockouts to his name, while Duhaupas carries 32 wins, 2 defeats, and 20 knockouts. No, this isn’t exactly a hotly contested match-up on paper, but it will be interesting to see if Duhaupas can ask any questions of Wilder.
Duhaupas is big, can fight, and is arguably better than Eric Molina, Wilder’s last opponent who recently managed to go 9 rounds with the ‘Bronze Bomber’ before going horizontal.
Wilder vs Duhaupas will air on PBC on NBC in the late afternoon today. Be sure to join us a full report!
So, thoughts on Wilder vs Duhaupas, people? We know who you’re picking, so just tell us your version of how this thing plays out. Immediate beat down? Or will Wilder have to work for his ‘kill’ tonight?
