The upcoming weekend of boxing isn’t quite as tasty as the last, but there’s still a number of noteworthy fights set to hit TV screens. Join us as we take a quick look at what’s on the horizon over the July 24th-25th weekend.
July 24th TV Boxing Schedule
Buglioni vs Castaneda
Boxnation
With the dangerous Fedor Chudinov fight shelved for the moment – due to a broken nose suffered by the German – Frank Buglioni will be taking on Fernando Castaneda. Buglioni, whose unbeaten record was blemished by Sergey Khomitsky back in April 2014, shouldn’t encounter too many problems with his stand-in opponent.
Buglioni will be looking to bulk his 16-1-1, 12 KO record, and Castaneda his 23-9, 14 KO with an unlikely upset.
Provided Buglioni gets by Castaneda, an encounter with WBA Super Middleweight champ Chudinov could be rescheduled for Autumn. Chief support will see Billy Joe Saunders faces journeyman Yoann Bloyer in a stay-busy showcase fight to build Saunder’s looming showdown with Andy Lee in September. Saunders is currently unbeaten in 21 fights, and is the only man to have defeated Middleweight countryman Chris Eubank Jr.
Also fighting will be Mitchell Smith and Dennis Tubieron, and Dereck Chisora as he makes yet another comeback following an ugly stoppage defeat to Tyson Fury last November.

July 25th TV Boxing Schedule
Kovalev vs Mohammedi
HBO, Boxnation
It’s not the fight audiences were hoping for, of course, but perhaps Nadjib Mohammedi will surprise us all when he takes on dynamite-fisted Sergey Kovalev. Mohammedi, our #10 ranked Light Heavyweight, isn’t slick like Jean Pascal or a particularly notorious puncher. He can fight, however, and will be looking to put in the upset.
OK…it’s hard to be too optimistic about said upset. Kovalev vs Mohammedi isn’t a dreadful match-up, but does kinda seem like another time-filler ahead of an Adonis Stevenson showdown. If that fight ever happens. We hope we’re wrong about Mohammedi’s chances.
Kovalev, one of the most feared men in boxing, will be defending his WBA, IBF and WBO titles in this Vegas 12-rounder. Going in, he stands at 27-0-1, 24 KO, and his challenger Mohammedi 37-3, 23 KO.
Jean Pascal and upcoming Yunieski Gonzalez will be battling in another Light Heavyweight contest on the undercard. This actually looks very competitive on paper, befitting of the old ‘experience vs youth’ cliche rather nicely. Pascal is currently 29-3-1, 17 KO, and Gonzalez 16-0, 12 KO.
Gonzalez is unbeaten but hasn’t claimed a notable scalp to date, whereas Pascal has demonstrated his class against fighters like Carl Froch and, most recently, headliner Kovalev. Sullivan Barrera and Hakim Zoulikha will be engaging in a Light Heavyweight 10-rounder beforehand, as will Issac Chilemba.

Shumenov vs Flores
NBC Sports
Beibut Shumenov will be taking on BJ Flores in another Vegas headliner, this set for 12 rounds in the Cruiserweight division. It isn’t the most anticipated fight of the weekend given both men aren’t on many fight fan radars. Shumenov, 15-2, 10 KO, is a former title holder at Light Heavyweight who looked to be set for fairly big things prior to being schooled by Bernard Hopkins in April 2014. Never count out old B’Hop.
Flores has just one defeat on his record against Danny Green in 2010, but the contents of his 31-1-1, 20 KO record won’t exactly send pulses racing. The Interim WBA Cruiserweight strap will be on the line. Rico Ramos vs Claudio Marrero will unfold in a supporting 10-round Featherweight contest, as will Jordan Shimmel vs Isiah Thomas in a 10-round Cruiserweight match-up.
Viloria vs Soto
UniMas
Finally, Brian Viloria and Omar Soto will be trading leather in a Flyweight 10-rounder in Hollywood, California. Viloria, a former champ at Flyweight and Junior Flyweight, will be looking to edge closer to a world title bid by defeating ex-foe Omar Soto. Viloria (our #4 Flyweight) won their first encounter via Split Decision back in 2010, and currently holds a record of 35-4, 21 KO, while Soto’s stands at 23-11-2, 15 KO.
Support will see Featherweights Guy Robb and Edwin Solis square off, as well as Lightweights William Silva and Adam Mate. Both bouts are scheduled for 8 rounds.
