Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares looked in tip-top shape on the scales earlier today at the Staples Center, Los Angeles. Undefeated Santa Cruz (30-0-1, 17 KO) came in at 125.2 pounds, while opponent Mares (29-1-1, 15 KO) came in at 124.8.
Santa Cruz is a two-weight champion and former holder of the WBC Junior Featherweight crown, and will certainly have his work cut out against three-weight champion Mares. No world title is on the line here – unless you count the superfluous WBA Diamond Featherweight variety – but Mexican pride is. Not to mention lucrative paydays against the top guns of the division.
FightHubTV cameras were in LA to catch all the action:
If the ‘paper’ is right, fights fans could be in for a true Mexican rumble here. For the co-feature, Hugo Ruiz (35-2, 31 KO) weighed in at 121.4 pounds, and Julio Ceja (29-1, 26 KO) 121 for their Junior Featherweight encounter.
Other weights on the PBC card included:
Alfredo Angulo (163) vs Hector Munoz (159.8)
Alejandro Luna (135) vs Sergio Lopez (134.2)
Jessie Roman (144.2) vs Hector Serrano (143.2)
You can catch Santa Cruz-Mares on ESPN tonight (UK fans on BT Sport). Get those predictions rolling in, fight fans!
