At the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Las Vegas, the Kovalev vs Mohammedi weigh-in saw both men successfully make weight. Sergey Kovalev, the IBF, WBO and WBA Super champ, will be defending his titles against France’s Nadjib Mohammedi in a scheduled 12-rounder. Kovalev came in at 174.5 pounds, and Mohammedi a ready 173.
Kovalev is the obvious favorite to win here – of course in brutal fashion – and could be about to target elite opposition such as Andre Ward should he be victorious. For what it’s worth, Mohammedi (our #10 Light Heavyweight) looked all business, certainly in fine shape, and could perhaps ask more questions of Kovalev than expected. We will soon find out.
Going in, Kovalev is 27-0-1, 24 KO, and Mohammedi 37-3, 23 KO. The Light Heavyweight clash will see chief support from ring veteran Jean Pascal as he takes on heavy-handed prospect Yunieski Gonzalez. HBO and Boxnation (UK network) will be televising the event.
HBO cameras were in Vegas to catch all the action:
