In Cincinnati, Ohio, the Broner vs Allakhverdiev Weigh-In got underway without problems. Despite uttering some inaudible words to his foe on the platform, Adrien Broner continued his ‘vow of silence’. Khabib Allakhverdiev may be the underdog in this championship bout, which will see the victor pick up the vacant WBA Junior Welterweight strap, but he appeared supremely confident. Good for him.
Cleveland.com cameras captured all the action:
Broner came in at a very ready – or perhaps too light? – 138.5 pounds, while Allakhverdiev came in at 139. This is the dullest Broner weigh-in to date due to the lack of ‘verbal spillage’, but this could well be a sign that Broner is looking to put in a highlight-reel performance tonight. Heaven knows he needs one coming off a God-awful showing against Shawn Porter last June.
Personally, I think we’re going to see some fireworks tonight from the 26-year-old. I believe Broner has finally got his s*** together, learnt a few painful lessons, and swallowed enough pride to give his all in training. I’m expecting good stuff from the Cincinatti-native who really is in a make-or-break fight. Boy, I hope I’m not going to regret saying that…
As for Allakhverdiev, he has enough skill and capability to make this a fight. The Russian boxer is a tricky southpaw and former champ himself, after all. However, if Broner is on top form and refrains from time-wasting and clowning, Allakhverdiev could be made to look very average.
Going into the Showtime headliner, Broner is 30 wins, 2 defeats, 22 knockouts, and Allakhverdiev 19 wins, 1 defeat, 9 knockouts.
What are your thoughts on Broner vs Allakhverdiev? And will the winner be getting a crack at the winner of Matthysse vs Postol?
