Tyson Fury, one of Britain’s top Heavyweight hopes, is never short of words. Especially for his rivals in the division. The 6′ 9″ 26-year-old fighter will face Wladimir Klitschko on October 24th, and in the meantime has been predicting wins over more than just his looming Ukranian foe. Apparently all the best fighters north of 200 pounds will eventually fall flat at the feet of Fury, according to a recent interview with Sky Sports.
“I am beating Klitschko, I am beating Wilder, I am beating Joshua and whoever else they want to send to me,” the outspoken boxer assured. “I am confident I am going to win this fight regardless of what Klitschko brings to the ring. He still isn’t going to win.”
Fury hasn’t been crushing the division’s best fighters exactly, with his biggest wins coming against the likes of Sean Cunningham and Derek Chisora. But we’re not going to get all cynical. It would be far too easy to start pointing out the findings of our Klitschko vs Fury Extended Tale of the Tape. Whatever happens in the ring will happen. And if Fury tastes defeat, he’ll have at least boosted interest for the Heavyweight scene along the way.
“I am the man and this is my era,” Fury went on. “They’re in my era, so they are getting knocked out. I can do everything. I can box, I can knock them out and I can be awkward. I am a heavyweight’s nightmare.”
Bold predictions, indeed, from the self- marketing machine. As long as the brash Fury leaves it all in the ring, and achieves more than David Haye (2011), nobody is going to complain too much. Let’s remember that Fury isn’t the favorite here. Klitschko had to face a Top 10 Heavyweight, and after all, no matter how crude Fury might sometimes appear, he’s still in the Top 5. Let him have his shot, and let’s see what he can bring.
Klitschko vs Fury will air on HBO, RTL, and Sky Sports Box Office (UK). Klitschko will enter the ring 64-3, 53 knockouts, and Fury 24-0, 18 knockouts.
