Earlier today at The Venue at UFC, Orlando, Tony Thompson and Malik Scott stepped on to the scales ahead of tonight’s Heavyweight encounter. No titles are on the line, but an opportunity to move closer to big fights with the likes of Deontay Wilder and Wladimir Klitschko will be.
Thompson came in at 263 pounds, while Scott came in at a trimmer 235. Just how relevant is this PBC on Bounce affair? Well, not very. But it could at least be entertaining considering the pair appear to be evenly matched going into the 10-rounder.
Thompson, 44, is of course a veteran of the game, but is still a contender of sorts, proving his ability by blasting out the likes of David Price twice back in 2013. Thompson has come up short on the cards against Kubrat Pulev and Carlos Takam, but has overcome Odlanier Solis twice.
Scott also has a patchy record in his last five ring outings. Following a Draw to Vyacheslav Glazkov in 2013, he has been stopped by Dereck Chisora and Deontay Wilder, but trumped Grover Young and, most recently, Alex Leapai.
Thompson will climb through the ropes with 40 wins, 5 defeats and 27 knockouts, and Scott 37 wins, 2 defeats, 1 draw and 13 knockouts. Besides the weight advantage (?), Thompson is also a southpaw standing an inch taller at 6’ 5”.
On the undercard, 140 pound prospects Haskell Rhodes (138.8) and Sergey Lipinets (139.8) will be doing battle in another 10-rounder. 147 pound prospects Javontae Starks (148) and Samuel Figueroa (149.2) will also be squaring off in a scheduled 8-rounder.
PBC’s Thompson vs Scott takes place tonight on Bounce TV.
Who are you picking in this one, folks?
