At the latest GGG-Lemieux press conference, Bernard Hopkins chimed in with his own thoughts on the TNT-loaded unification fight. The former Middleweight champ seemed unsurprisingly overwhelmed with the vast interest already generated for the October 17th bout, and also touched on a possible weakness of Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin.
Hopkins mentioned no flaws in GGG’s offense – of course – defense or technique, but did state that praise and ego can derail even the greatest of champions. It’s an interesting notion, and makes you wonder if even someone as seemingly humble as GGG could fall prey to his huge success in boxing. Undefeated, highly regarded, and one of the hardest hitters (our #2) in the sport. It wouldn’t be impossible.
And if there’s one man hoping Hopkins is right, it will be David Lemieux.
You can hear what Hopkins had to tell FightHub TV cameras below:
GGG-Lemieux will can be caught live on HBO PPV, and will also feature an intriguing co-support clash between Roman Gonzalez and Brian Viloria. Viloria will be hoping to topple Gonzalez (our #1 Flyweight) and take home his WBC and RING titles.
What’s your opinion on GGG’s weaknesses? Could monumental success be an issue on fight night? Does he have any weaknesses in terms of technique and ability? Or are we simply set to find out what he’s really made of when the bell rings?
