Both fighters have a lot to prove, with the winner likely to get a crack at dethroning champions Nicholas Walters, Vasyl Lomachenko or Gary Russell Jr.
The results of Boxing Base’s ‘Who Wins Santa Cruz-Mares?’ poll are now in, and according to the opinions of close to 700 readers, you might as well flip a coin. The results came in as follows:
Santa Cruz via Decision: 26%
Santa Cruz via KO/TKO: 19%
Mares via Decision: 27%
Mares via KO/TKO: 28%
It’s an interesting outcome. Contrary to popular opinion, it is Mares who received the majority of votes, for winning both by knockout or decision (55% – 45%). But only by a whisker, of course.
