Middleweight: Legends & History
The Middleweight division, first introduced in the 1840s, is one of boxing’s original eight classic ‘glamour divisions’. Fan-friendly and steeped in history, the division sits between the modern era’s Junior Middleweight (154 lbs) and Super Middle’ (168).
Its longstanding appeal has endured for decades courtesy of powerhouse talents and the fiercest of rivalries. While some of the division’s best boxers were natural-born 160-pounders, many have climbed up from lower weights to capture Middleweight pugilistic honors and glory.
Some of the greatest Middleweight boxers of all time include the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Bernard Hopkins, Jermain Taylor, Kelly Pavlik, Sergio Martinez, Iran Barkley, Marvin Hagler, Carlos Monzon, Sugar Ray Robinson and Jake La Motta.
