In under an hour, HBO’s Live Stream of the Cotto vs Canelo Weigh-in will begin from the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas. Miguel Cotto will be stepping onto the scales along with Canelo Alvarez as they look to make the 155-pound catch-weight for tonight’s headliner.
Check out HBO’s live coverage below:
Cotto vs Canelo isn’t just a battle between two fighters, but one of two nations. Anyone who knows boxing knows of the fierce rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico, and that dynamic has added extra spice to this affair.
No matter what happens after the bell, a sellout crowd and huge (predicted) PPV numbers would point to this being the highest grossing event in the 2015 boxing calendar thus far.
The WBC Middleweight title will be on the line for Canelo only, due to a major riff between Cotto and the sanctioning body earlier this week. Cotto will climb through the ropes with 40 wins, 4 losses, 33 knockouts to his name, and Canelo 45 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw, 32 knockouts.
Cotto is coming in off a 4th round stoppage of Daniel Geale in June, and Canelo a 3rd round knockout of James Kirkland in May. Neither opponent was considered a major threat at the time, but both highlight reel demolition jobs certainly paid dividends in setting up tonight’s showdown.
Before Cotto vs Canelo arrives, Guillermo Rigondeaux will defend his RING Junior Featherweight title against Drian Francisco. Takashi Miura will defend his WBC Lightweight crown against Francisco Vargas, and Randy Caballero his IBF Bantamweight strap against Lee Haskins. Boxing Base will be providing Live Coverage, plus Round by Round Updates on Twitter (@BoxingBase).
