There was nothing spectacular or controversial about today’s Klitschko vs Fury weigh-in. Hardly a word was spoken when the fighters’ eyes locked during the Dusseldorf stare down, which was, you know, surprising since Tyson Fury’s tongue was in the room. Fury momentarily refused to shake Wladimir Klitschko’s hand, but that was about as spicy as the action got.
iFL TV cameras were in Germany:
Not that this event needed a weigh-in brawl to sell it exactly. Fury has been injecting marketing juice into this thing for several weeks now without rest. But today there was no clowning around or singing. The 25-year-old was all business and, credit where it’s due, looked to be in pretty decent shape. The Mancunian skyscraper came in at 246.4 lbs – 14 pounds lighter than against Christian Hammer in February. For the record, Fury’s weight peaked at 274 against Joey Abell in February 2014.
But Klitschko, 39, was the more chiselled of the pair, without question. The multi-belted Heavyweight champ remained consistent on the scales, coming in at 243.3 lbs. There’s been a lot of talk in the media and boxing fandom surrounding Fury’s height (6′ 9″ – 6′ 6″) and weight advantages, but those three inches seemed to disappear at the weigh-in. And as for the weight, there was just the single pound between them.
Coming into this eagerly anticipated contest, Tyson Fury carries 24 wins, no defeats, 18 knockouts, while veteran Wladimir Klitschko will bring 54 wins, 3 defeats, 53 knockouts to the ring. Who are you picking in Klitschko vs Fury? Has the weigh-in tampered with your pre-fight prediction? Or are you sticking to your guns?
Klitschko vs Fury will air live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK, and on HBO Sports for stateside fight fans.
