We recently asked our Boxing Base readers to chime in with their own opinions on one of British Boxing’s biggest upcoming domestic bouts. Anthony Joshua and former Amateur rival Dillian Whyte are on a collision course, scheduled to settle their feud once and for all on December 12th.
Whyte knocked down Joshua twice in the Amateur circuit en route to a points victory – but how much has changed since? Is Joshua a different beast altogether now? Or will Whyte always hold the blueprint to toppling Britain’s biggest Heavyweight attraction?
The Joshua vs Whyte poll, which is now closed, counted the votes of close to 750 readers. The question: Can Dillian Whyte Upset Anthony Joshua?
An astounding 63% answered Not a chance, another KO victim in waiting, which doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. It does, however, show there are some doubters. 18% said No, but he will be a stern test, with 13% subscribing to Maybe, he has a good chance. Whyte, though a huge underdog on our poll, does have some believers at least: 5% voted Yes, he’ll be victorious.
Most recently, Joshua scored a 2nd round TKO of veteran Kevin Johnson in May, demonstrating just how brutal boxing can be. Earlier this month, Whyte made his own eye-catching statement with a 1st round KO of Irineu Beato Costa. Provided Joshua gets past Gary Cornish on September 12th, and Whyte an as yet to be named opponent, Joshua vs Whyte will be inked in for December.
The pairs’ power and advanced Amateur tutelage speak volumes on their records. Joshua’s reads an intimidating 13-0, 13 knockouts, while Whyte’s 15-0, 12 knockouts.
