Mayweather vs Pacquiao at weigh-inMayweather vs Pacquiao: The Weigh-In

Reporting live from Las Vegas. With just 24 hours until the ‘Fight of the Century’ unfolds, the preliminary weigh-in took place without a hitch in front of HBO cameras.

Both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao had no problems making weight on the scales, coming in under the Welterweight limit of 147 pounds at the MGM Garden Arena, Las Vegas. The thousands-strong crowd would have been pleased to see that neither man appeared gaunt or drained, signalling great training camps.

Both future hall of famers were in tip-top shape, looking ready for what lies ahead. Hallelujah.

Nothing out of the ordinary took place at the event. No bad words, no shoving. Nada. But this wasn’t an event that needed hyping up exactly. And a crowd in excess of 10,000 people in attendance proved that.

Most present were simply happy to be there at that moment in time when boxing’s finest faced off in what is being billed as ‘The Fight of the Century’.

Gone are the days of Mayweather trashing his opponents at weigh-ins as the pound-for-pound king stared at Pacquiao, dispensing not a word. The man was nothing but business, with just a burning intensity in his eyes.

As for Pacquiao’s demeanor, you guessed it. His happy-go-lucky character beamed while he thanked a silent foe for the opportunity. He then smiled at the crowd with his hands raised.

If their fighting styles already seemed to make for a dramatic fight, this bad guy-nice guy routine could only further fuel boxing fan’s anticipation. And yeah, the crowds cheers were sent mainly in Pacquiao’s direction. But what else is new?

The still undefeated Mayweather comes into the fight with 47 wins, no losses, 26 knockouts to his name. Filipino icon Pacquiao will enter the ring with 57 wins, 5 losses, 2 draws, and 38 knockouts.

The following fighters also successfully made weight for their undercard matchups at the Garden:

Mayweather vs Pacquiao: The Undercard

  • Unbeaten Leo Santa Cruz  came in at 124 pounds, with his opponent Jose Cayetano also coming in at the same weight
  • Amateur superstar and WBO Featherweight champion – in just his 4th pro fight – Vasyl Lomachenko came in at 125.5 pounds, while challenger Gamalier Rodriguez came in slightly heavier at 126

It’s not the most tantalizing of chief supports seen in recent times, but this is at least something fight fans can get their teeth into, especially given the accelerating, eye-catching career of Lomachenko. Given his recent win over Gary Russell Jr. – who recently crushed division demon Jhonny Gonzalez – serious boxing fans will no doubt have their eyes on him.
