Undercard Complete for Haye vs De Mori
The January 16th preamble doesn’t look overly exciting – on paper, at least – but it’s unlikely David Haye or his Hayemaker Promotions outfit are too concerned. This is Haye’s latest and most likely last comeback, and the former Heavyweight champion doesn’t need to shell out for a hot undercard to sell tickets.
Here’s the Haye vs De Mori full line up:
Billy Dib (39-4, 23 KO) vs Jamie Speight (13-8, 1 KO) – Junior Lightweight, 10 rounds
Tony Dodson (31-8-1, 15 KO) vs Richard Horton (9-5, 1 KO) – Light Heavyweight, 8 rounds
Kay Prospere (6-0, 4 KO) vs Lee Connelly (4-16-1, 0 KO) – Junior Welterweights, 6 rounds
Wadi Camacho (13-5, 8 KO) vs Jindrich Velecky (19-39, 18 KO) – Cruiserweights, 6 rounds
Jose Lopes (5-0, 2 KO) vs Darren Snow (1-1-1, 0 KO) – Cruiserweight, 4 rounds
Josh Kennedy (4-0, 4 KO) vs Luke Fash (0-2, 0 KO) – Junior Featherweight, 4 rounds
Martinez vs Salido Set for Third Tear Up
Roman Martinez and Orlando Salido produced a tasty dustup in early 2015, and followed it up with an all-out war in September. As it stands, Martinez is up at 1-0-1 against his tenacious, rugged rival, even though popular opinion says Salido deserved the nod in their most recent outing.
Martinez will be putting his WBO Junior Featherweight title on the line once again in 2016 when he takes on Salido for the third time on February 20th. If this trilogy-making bout comes anywhere close to mirroring the action of 2015, this rivalry could be compared to Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez (who engaged in four classic wars), and that’s no bad thing.
No venue or network has been announced as of yet, but the WBO has already has already given the fight the green light. According to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, the bout could air on either Showtime or Premier Boxing Champions.
Jamal James & Javier Molina Do Battle on PBC
As PBC main events go, this could actually be a decent scrap. Jamal James (18-0, 9 KO) is a rising prospect who won a comfortable decision over a game Juan Carlos Abreu in September. James was decked in the 4th round but came back to drop Abreu in the 6th en route to taking home a Unanimous Decision. Did I mention James is a 6’2 Welterweight? What a monster…
The 27-year-old will now be locking horns with Javier Molina (17-1, 8 KO) on January 19th at Los Angeles’ Club Nokia. While Molina isn’t considered a huge threat, he has enough skills in his repertoire to make things difficult if James overlooks the challenge. Molina, 25, will give away 5 inches in height, which, needless to say, means he has a big obstacle in front of him come fight night.
Chudinov vs Sturm II Set for February 20th
Why these two are going at it again is probably more due to business reasons than public demand. In fact, if you can find any boxing fan who is genuinely looking forward to seeing this encounter I’d be surprised. Sturm, who has won two of his last seven bouts, is almost over the hill and was convincingly beaten by Chudinov back in May (Split Decision, my a**).
With age and attrition hot on the heels of Sturm (39-5-3, 18 KO) and Chudinov (14-0, 10 KO) still a young, developing talent, I think we can all expect a greater beating this time around, maybe even a knockout. But, hey…there’s plenty of fights to still look forward to in the early quarter of 2016, so smile people!
Naoya Inoue vs Warlito Parrenas Weights
WBO Junior Bantamweight king Naoya Inoue (8-0, 7 KO) will be squaring off against Warlito Parrenas (24-6-1, 21 KO) tonight in Tokyo, Japan. Javier Mendoza (24-3-1, 19 KO) will also be defending his IBF Junior Featherweight title against Akira Yaegashi (23-5, 12 KO) on the chief support.
Official weights from the Ariake Colossuem:
Inoue, 115 lbs (52.1 kg) vs Parrenas, 114 lbs (51.7 kg)
Mendoza, 107.5 lbs (48.7 kg) vs Yaegashi 107.5 lbs (48.7 kg)
