Billy Joe Saunders Scoffs at Eubank Jr’s Chances Against ‘GGG’
Billy Joe Saunders isn’t too keen on outspoken Middleweight, Chris Eubank Jr, and believes his former foe would get slaughtered by Gennady Golovkin should their paths ever meet. Or more accurately, ‘GGG’ would “decapitate” him.
“It’s funny how people are thinking that Eubank is going to be some elite fighter now he’s trained by Adam Booth,” said Saunders in a Queensberry Promotions press release. “The fact is he was outclassed by me and he is nowhere near the elite level of guys like myself and Andy Lee.
“Eubank isn’t good enough to become a recognized world champion and he lives off his father’s name. After Golovkin, Andy and I are the next best guys in the division and Eubank will never be at that level.
“Golovkin would decapitate him if they were to ever fight, so his old man should probably keep quiet about saying [Eubank Jr.] would beat [Golovkin]!”
Eubank Jr isn’t a terribly overhyped fighter, the fact of the matter is Eubank has only been tested by one man in his career: Saunders himself. And Saunders was the man taking home the decision that night.
In time, as his pro career develops, we’ll find out if Eubank has any chance of hanging in there with Kazakhstan’s finest.
Donnie Nietes Eyeing Future Clash With Roman Gonzalez
RING Junior Flyweight champ Donnie Nietes, who is coming off a Unanimous Decision win over Juan Alejo at the weekend, could be moving up to lock horns with Roman Gonzalez. Well, not just yet, but in a couple of fights time, says ALA president Michael Aldeguer who promotes Nietes.
“We had a discussion [with Gonzalez promoter K2 Promotions], HBO also wanted to talk about it but we felt it was premature to discuss it before the results on Saturday. We’ll resume the talks again,” said Aldegular. “Nietes wants the fight. I think they also want the fight.”
“We’re looking at late next year or early 2017. Nietes is a 108 now. He has to gradually move up to 112 to fight Chocolatito.”
Gonzalez vs Nietes doesn’t sound like a bad match-up at all for late 2016/early 2017. Nietes in a fine fighter, but we’ll have to see how he fairs at Flyweight before he enters the ring with our P4P No.1 boxer, Gonzalez.
Artur Berterbiev Pulls Out of DeGale vs Bute Card
Fast-rising Light Heavyweight Artur Beterbiev has been forced to pull out of November 28th’s DeGale vs Bute card. Beterbiev, who didn’t have an opponent scheduled, will be having surgery following a recent shoulder injury, as was revealed in a press release.
“I am extremely frustrated and disappointed by the situation,” Beterbiev said. “I was preparing myself hard to give another great show to the fans, November 28th, but I will be back stronger in 2016.”.
“Under my supervision, Artur had a magnetic resonance examination Friday,” Beterbiev’s doctor, Francis Fontaine, explained. “After a meeting this morning, we have decided that Artur’s surgery would be performed in the next few days by specialist Dr. Baillargeon. We expect a complete recovery followed by a return to the ring at the beginning of 2016.”
Unless you’re a diehard fan of Beterbiev, this is unfortunate but not devastating news for most of us, in that the card won’t be missing a great fight. Beterbiev vs TBA isn’t the most anticipated pairing of the year, after all.
Now, if Beterbiev vs Sullivan Barrera had been back on, that would’ve been a different story entirely.
