Abel Sanchez and Gennady Golovkin reflect on the perfect gameplan to beat David LemieuxGolovkin & Sanchez Explain Methodical Blitzing of Lemieux

Gennady Golovkin did everything right against David Lemieux, and as we all know, leading predominantly with the jab was the strongest of foundations for his masterplan. ‘GGG’ and trainer Abel Sanchez confirmed that when they spoke to Boxing News.

“I felt [I had] very good distance,” Golovkin said. “Every jab I touched. I was waiting a little bit. I wasn’t crazy attack, crazy style like street fight – not this time. David, he’s a strong guy, he’s a good warrior.”

“I see that [jab] in the gym every day,” Sanchez said of the punch. “This was the best I’ve seen it in a fight … The perceived threat was there so he used the jab a little better and was able to do everything off the jab. Some of the hooks he threw off the jab were powerful too.”

No, Abel Sanchez. Every shot was powerful, dude.

Boxnation to Air Povetkin-Wach Card

Good news for British boxing fans: broadcaster Boxnation will be airing Russia’s hard-hitting Povetkin-Wach card, which includes an impressive support card on November 4th. Povetkin may be getting on at 36, but he’s shown no signs of decline recently against Manuel Charr (KO 7), Carlos Takam (KO 10), Mike Perez (TKO 1).

Should Povetkin get past Wach, there’s been a ton of talk the Russian could be shortlisted to be Deontay Wilder’s early 2016 dance partner. It’s hard to say just how competitive a pairing like that would actually be. But for the record, if it weren’t for Alexander giving away five inches in height, I’d happily back him.

Koki Kameda Hangs Up Gloves

Despite his spirited, commendable performance against Kohei Kono at the weekend, Koki Kameda has announced his retirement from boxing. Kameda, 28, the oldest of sibling of boxing brothers Tomoki and Daiki, told the Japan Times:

“Frankly, I’m confident I can still compete. However, this is my aesthetic: the ultimate is to retire in good form.”

Koki, if he does indeed stay retired from the sport, will leave with a record of 33-2, 18 knockouts, having been a two-weight world titlist during his career. We wish him all the best for the future.
