At the Sheffield Arena, UK, Chris Eubank did exactly what he was tipped to do in the night’s headlining fight. After some gratuitous showboating, the heavy-handed 26-year-old knocked down Tony Jeter following two left-hooks to the temple.
Jeter, 39, managed to regain his feet and see out the round. But then, just twenty seconds or so into the 2nd, came under attack from a barrage of thunderous, head-snapping hooks from Eubank. The referee stepped in. Eubank posed for the cameras. The crowd booed.
To be fair, this headliner was never going to receive a standing ovation. Because, you know, it was a terrible mismatch which was originally set for the undercard until the Brook vs Chaves fight got shelved recently. So, naturally this was to be a forgettable encounter which held no chance of making an impact on the Middleweight division.
Forgive me for summarising Eubank Jr vs Jeter with that often irrating conclusion: it is what it is.
Following the win, Eubank Jr now builds to 20 wins, 1 defeat, 15 knockouts, while Jeter returns to the US with 20 wins, 5 defeats, 1 draw, 14 knockouts. Eubank is now supposedly on a near-future collision course with Gary O’Sullivan, a potential match-up which could well contained a few fireworks.
