Deontay Wilder discusses the Heavyweight scene and Tyson FuryDeontay Wilder Says Tyson Fury is Running Scared

I know, you’ve heard it all before. Deontay Wilder is avoiding Tyson Fury and vice versa. Will they ever start exchanging leather to decide who the ‘legitimate’ Heavyweight champ of the world is? Unfortunately I don’t have the answer to that right now, and neither does the Showtime video below, but it’s Thursday afternoon, you’re a boxing fan, so why not check it out? (you know you wanna…)

Terence Crawford vs Hank Lundy Inked for Feb 27

Rising standout Terence Crawford (27-0, 19 KO) will be back in action on February 27th in New York, as will glowing prospect Felix Verdejo. Madison Square Garden will host the HBO-broadcasted event. Crawford, who is coming off a flawless win over Dierry Jean last October, will be taking on Hank Lundy, while Verdejo (19-0, 14 KO) will be providing chief support against unbeaten William Silva.

These aren’t solid match-ups, but could be, mmm…entertaining perhaps. Lundy (26-5-1, 13 KO) isn’t on Crawford’s level, but has at least been competitive in his five defeats which have included the likes of Viktor Postol, Thomas Dulorme and Mauricio Herrera. You could call Lundy a tough, tried-and-tested-type challenger. For what it’s worth, the man has a 2010 win over Richar Abril.

But what about this Silva (22-0, 13 KO) chap who’s been brought in to challenge rung-climber Verdejo? Unbeaten record, commendable knockout ratio – what’s the catch? I think you already guessed the answer to that: Silva’s record is a bit of a smokescreen, with plenty of wins of lower calibre fighters. As always, I’m happy to be proved wrong. Who isn’t looking forward to seeing Verdejo up against a solid test, after all?

UK Broadcaster for David Haye vs Mark De Mori Revealed

If you assumed David Haye vs Mark De Mori was going to be broadcast on usual suspects Boxnation or Sky Sports, you’re wrong. So where then? Channel 5? BBC? BT Sport? ITV? Not even close. The Hayemaker’s comeback fight will be broadcast on ‘Dave’ after UKTV recently landed the exclusive rights.

If you’re unfamiliar with Dave, there’s only one piece of information you really need to stick to your brain: it’s a free channel that’s showing Haye vs De Mori on January 16th. (whoops and cheers!) The action will be unfolding at the O2 Arena, London.

IBF Orders James DeGale vs Jose Uzcategui

The sanctioning body has ordered IBF Middleweight champ James DeGale to chalk up an agreement to face mandatory challenger Jose Uzcategui within the next 2 months. If DeGale doesn’t, the IBF will strip the Olympic Gold Medalist of their title…or something like that, I guess.

If that fight was to take place, I’d be tuning for sure, as would probably a lot of other hardcore boxing heads. Uzcategui wouldn’t be the favorite, but with his dynamite power I’d give him more than a good chance of toppling ‘Chunky’. If you missed Uzcategui crushing unbeaten Julius Jackson in 2 rounds last October, you need to check it out.

Floyd Mayweather Says Racism Still an Issue in Boxing & MMA

I don’t really want to comment on the words of the recently retired Floyd Mayweather when he spoke to Fight Hype recently. Instead, I’ll just let you soak it up for yourself and then spill your thoughts in the comments below (should you feel the urge).

Adrien Broner Vents on Ashley Theopane After Missing Out on Manny Pacquiao Bout

What does a man like Adrien Broner do when he misses out on a career-high payday against Manny Pacquiao? Well, isn’t the answer simple? Take to Twitter and unload a bunch of malicious rants. Yes, after hearing Pacquiao vs Bradley III had been inked for April 9th, Broner slammed Bob Arum and then blasted next best option Ashley Theopane.

Here’s a portion of what ‘The Problem’ had to say:

@AdrienBroner: people wanted to see me fight @MannyPacquiaoTR but BOB ARUM so greedy he wanted all the money in the house so he can Robb everybody LOL

@AdrienBroner: Haaaaaaa!!!!! They tricked y’all again faking like they wanted smoke with me knowing they got bag lungs

@AdrienBroner: I’m a savage foreal I don’t give a f*** anybody can get it…..well it’s time to get some easy money …. Get ready @AshleyTheophane LOL

To be fair, it’s probably better for everyone involved in the Broner vs Theopane fight that Broner talks (and Tweets) as much as possible. Cos’, you know, that’s a fight in need of a hype-injection boost (should it get made). As for Broner not getting the Pacquiao encounter, it’s fairly obvious why it eluded him: when you lose one-sided decisions to Marcos Maidana and Shawn Porter, it can happen.

What are your thoughts on today’s boxing news? Has Terence Crawford vs Hank Lundy and Felix Verdejo vs William Silva earned your eyes in February? Is Floyd Mayweather right about racism in combat sports? Just for fun, who would win Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury? And could you give a rat’s behind about Adrien Broner vs Ashley Theopane?
