David Haye is eyeing a 2016 comeback to the boxing ringDavid Haye Asks Fans to Choose Comeback Foe

Yes, that old chestnut: David Haye is returning to the ring. We’ve heard it all before, and frankly, it’s getting kind of boring. Former Heavyweight champ, David Haye, who hasn’t fought for three and half years since suffering a shoulder injury, says he could be back in the ring in 2016.

Here’s what Haye had to say on his Twitter (@mrdavidhaye) account:

Who would the fans like my first comeback fight to be against after my 3 and a half year absence from the ring?

Look, I’m a fan of the guy. Haye’s a joy to watch, and is one of the modern era’s most exciting Heavyweights, for sure. But would it be wise for the ‘Hayemaker’ to continue fighting? Especially at 35-years-old, after a long, long layoff, and with a dodgy shoulder to boot?

Deontay Wilder to Make 3rd Defense in January

Fans of Deontay Wilder will be happy to know the ‘Bronze Bomber’ will be back in action on January 16th, according to Showtime. Brooklyn’s Barclays Center will host Wilder’s third title defense, though an opponent has not yet been named.

Right now it would seem highly unlikely that opponent is going to be WBC mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin, however. What we’ll probably have to settle for is yet another capable but non-threatening challenger.

And if the rumor mill bares any truth, that fighter could well be Vyachesla Glazkov (21-0-1, 13 KO), who pretty much fits the bill. We’ll just have to sit tight in the meantime and see who gets the call.

Guillermo Rigondeaux Added to Cotto-Canelo Card

Guillermo Rigondeaux is back! You know, that standout Cuban boxer who – for reasons beyond the scope of this article – barely fights? Well, he’ll be back in action before the year is out, fighting this weekend on the Cotto-Canelo bill.

Rigondeaux has now signed up with promoter Roc Nation, who has landed the unbeaten Junior Featherweight a 10-rounder against a decent-yet-undersized opponent in Drian Francisco. But given Rigondeaux has accumulated some considerable cobwebs over the last 18 months or so, the calibre of his opponent is no shock.

Hopefully the 35-year-old will go on, however, to challenge the winner of January’s Scott Quigg vs Carl Frampton, and eventually reclaim the WBO and WBA belts he was recently stripped of.

Cast your thoughts on today’s boxing news. Are you stirred by David Haye’s comeback plans for 2016? Pleased to hear Rigondeaux will be plumping up the Cotto-Canelo bill? And what about Wilder? Will the champ continue to look outside of the Top 10 for his January opponent?
