October 23rd
Diaz vs Tamayo, Gomez vs Silva
Estrella TV
Joseph Diaz Jr and Frankie Gomez are back in action, and given Ruben Tamayo and Jorge Silva are fringe-level type opposition at best, they shouldn’t have too much difficulty getting past them on Friday night.
Brant vs Rose
Showtime
This card is filled with plenty of prospects, which will delight a lot of boxing fans before the weekend officially arrives. The full line up includes Rob Brant vs Louis Rose, Jarrell Miller vs Akhror Muralimov, Angel Luna vs Harmonito de la Torre, and Lavarn Harvell vs Samuel Clarkson. Not bad for a Friday night.
October 24th
Eubank Jr vs Jeter, McDonnell vs Parodi
Sky Sports 1
I’m not going to take a swipe at this card, because it’s hardly Matchroom Boxing’s fault Kell Brook had to pull out from the originally billed headliner with Diego Chaves. In case you haven’t already heard, Brook suffered a rib injury during sparring last week.
Anyway, the card is still going ahead, with Matchroom Boxing’s newest signing Chris Eubank Jr being elevated to the main event. Eubank will be meeting Tony Jeter, who will likely kiss the canvas once or several times depending on his toughness.
After Eubank gets past Jeter – yes, I’m happy to make the assumption – he’ll be set to clash with Gary O’Sullivan in December. Now that’s a tastier fight to look forward to. On the Eubank Jr vs Jeter undercard, Gavin McDonnell will be defending his European Junior Featherweight title against Jeremy Parodi.
Golovkin vs Lemieux, Gonzalez vs Viloria
HBO
No, these fighters aren’t going at it again in rematches. HBO are so proud of last weekend’s Middleweight/Flyweight spectacles that they’ve decided to run a repeat for everyone to see. So, you know…if you’re stateside and didn’t shell out for the PPV price tag, here’s your chance to see David Lemieux get a right pounding.
And yeah, it’s also another chance to see Flyweight supreme Roman Gonzalez give Brian Viloria a boxing lesson. In other words, two of boxing’s very finest talents in back-to-back fights.
Crawford vs Jean
HBO, Boxnation
Terence Crawford is rubbing shoulders with Pound for Pound elites like Gonzalez and ‘GGG’, and the Omaha-native will be taking on Dierry Jean in his home town. Jean shouldn’t be written off as he is a decent fighter, but at Junior Welterweight, and against a fighter like Crawford, he could end up looking rather average.
Happy to be proved wrong, as always.
