Cotto vs Geale - Miguel Cotto faces Daniel Geale this weekendJune 4th: Velez vs Ramirez

Fox Sports 1

Featuring on LA Fight Club, Jayson Velez vs Daniel Ramirez isn’t exactly hard to call on paper. But it is what it is. Ramirez is the more capable fighter and is expected to bag the win here. Christian Gonzalez will take place in the co-feature against a yet to be announced opponent.

June 6th: Yordon vs Awuku

RCTI (IDN)

Daud Yordon takes on Maxwell Awuku.

June 6th: Guerrero vs Martinez

NBC

In the Premier Boxing Champions main event, Robert Guerrero will be taking on Aron Martinez at the StubHub Center, California. It’s hard to believe Guerrero, who has achieved little in his past few fights, was once sharing a ring with Floyd Mayweather.

Here he takes on Martinez, who despite being relatively unknown to most boxing fans, is probably capable of giving Guerrero a good fight. This headliner is considered more of a gap-filler until Cotto vs Geale starts, it has to be said.

What’s probably more interesting is the Cuellar vs Darchinyan fight set to take place on the undercard. Darchinyan, as we know, seems incapable of going into a fight without eying a knockout. And that’s something a lot of fight fans still love about this guy.

NBC Sports Network (continuing PBC coverage)

It’s not yet known exactly what fights will carry over, but it could well be the Alfredo Angulo vs Delray Raines match up. Also, Marvin Sonsona vs Jonathan Arrellano and Dominic Breazeale vs Yasmany Consuegra are scheduled, to name a few. Chris Arreola may not be fighting as his bout appears to have now been called off.

All in all, this is a mediocre card at best.

June 6th: Cotto vs Geale

HBO/Boxnation/Main Event PPV

In a weekend of sub-par boxing, Cotto vs Geale is the most anticipated bout set to take place. Why is Miguel Cotto, the reigning WBC Middleweight Champion, taking on light opposition like Daniel Geale, you might ask? Great question.

Perhaps because it’s an easy title defense, perhaps because Roc Nation (Cotto’s new promoter) want to secure a good payday before they see him in the ring with a dangerous fighter? Perhaps for a lot of reasons…

Like it or hate it, the single-fight card will be taking place at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn – a busy boxing venue which just hosted Khan vs Algieri. Cotto picked up his piece of the Middleweight championship against Sergio Martinez, and will be gunning for a future showdown with Canelo Alvarez later this year.

Geale is the underdog big time here, and it’s the feeling most analysts share. He has good footwork, a high work-rate, and tremendous determination, to be fair. He certainly showed that against Darren Barker in 2013. But the Australian will be up against it in this bout. Not to mention his much publicized struggles with making weight just days before stepping on the scales.
