Terence Crawford Star Appeal Rising
The top-tier Junior Welterweight and Pound-for-Pounder saw a rise in ratings against Dierry Jean at the weekend, 7% higher than his previous clash with Thomas Dulorme. According to Nielsen, the HBO event averaged 1.017 million viewers, peaking at 1.2.
Not bad, ‘Bud’.
But it is worth noting that the broadcast was coupled with a repeat of Golovkin vs Lemieux and Gonzalez vs Viloria, which itself averaged at 797,000 viewers. Crawford is a big name, but it’s likely ‘GGG’ may have plumped up the night’s viewership numbers a tad.
Bob Arum Fancies Bradley vs Rios Winner Facing Canelo
It’s got to be all about the dollars. Well, obviously – this is boxing, after all. But come on, be honest, do you really like the sound of Canelo vs Bradley or Rios at 154 pounds (probably 155)? If the answer’s yes, then you’ll love Bob Arum’s plans:
“If Bradley wins and is not fighting Pacquiao, I’d like to make him with Canelo. That’s a good fight,” Arum told ESPN. “If Canelo beats Cotto, I’ve talked to [Alvarez promoter] Oscar [De La Hoya] about the winner of Bradley-Rios fighting Canelo, and he loves it.”
So, are boxing fans about to see Golovkin vs Cotto/Canelo snatched wiped off the slate?
Chris Algieri vs Erick Bone on December 5th
Former champ Chris Algieri has been officially added to the Jacobs vs Quillin card, set to unfold at the BarclayCard Center, Brooklyn. The man across the ring will be Erick Bone, a fairly decent Welterweight contender who will bring 16 wins, 2 defeats and 8 knockouts to the 10-rounder.
Both men will be looking to return to winning ways. Bone was knocked out in 5 against Shawn Porter in March, and Algieri has lost his past two bouts, losing a lopsided decision to Manny Pacquiao last November, and another to Amir Khan in May.
What are your thoughts on Bradley and Rios perhaps facing Canelo Alvarez in the near future, Terence Crawford’s ratings rise, plus the rest of today’s boxing headlines?
