Why Doesn’t Boxing Base Consider all Title Belts in Your Boxer Rankings?

The staff at Boxing Base do recognize and value all title belts, no matter their sanctioning body or division, and we congratulate all boxers who capture them.

However, due to the rising number of modern era titles, also known as boxing’s ‘alphabet soup’, we have decided to avoid ‘champion status confusion’ by mentioning only the ‘major’ world titles in our Boxing Rankings – consisting of the ‘Super’ and ‘Regular’ variety. We do not consider titles such as ‘Interim’ and ‘Silver’.

For that reason, boxers and bouts featured in our News, Results, Schedule and Rankings, etc, will generally be mentioned alongside these ‘major’ titles only. For example, our #3 ranked Welterweight fighter, John Contender, may have captured the WBC ‘Silver’ title, and our #2 fighter, Bob Contender, may have captured the WBC ‘Super’ version; here, only the ‘Super’ title would be listed.

Again, this decision is not to discredit John Contender’s achievement in capturing the ‘Silver’ variety, but merely to avoid confusion and create greater championship level clarity for our readers.

If you disagree with this policy and or have a suggestion, please get in touch with our boxing staff writers right here at Boxing Base, or on Facebook/Twitter.
