Khan vs Pacquiao is dead in the water, people. Yep. Amir Khan, who was almost set for a potential clash with Manny Pacquiao in 2016, has now left the negotiating table to eye other potential opponents.
“I have pulled out of the negotiations. I am no longer fighting Manny Pacquiao. I am willing to fight anyone, but it seems not everyone is willing to fight me,” Khan told The National, apparently due to Pacquiao’s team stalling in signing the dotted line.
Not everyone is willing to face Khan? Well, that’s not entirely true, is it? That could be translated as “Mayweather and Pacquiao aren’t willing to face me.”
But you know, the Welterweight division is brimming with ‘other’ talent, with the likes of Keith Thurman, Timothy Bradley, Jessie Vargas, Kell Brook, Brandon Rios, Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia – so why doesn’t Khan turn his attention to one of the these Top 10 contenders?
Every one of them has two fully operational shoulders, aren’t over 35-years-old, and would have little problems signing a contract with a marketable fighter like Khan. Pretty much all of them are under Al Haymon’s wing – as is Khan – which would seemingly make negotiations a breeze. And more than one of them actually carries a world title…
Imagine how big a fight like Khan vs Garcia II could be – especially since both men are now campaigning at 147, and significant time has passed since Garcia knocked out Khan in 4 rounds back in 2012. That’s a marketable fight, man!
But this is boxing. This is politics. This is business. This is Khan.
