Are you looking forward to a potential Khan-Pacquiao match-up? If it’s a yes, then you’re like the sound of this optimistic news. According to Amir Khan, negotiations between the pairs’ teams are going rather well. The bout, if it is to come to fruition, will likely take place in the early quarter of 2016 when Pacquiao’s shoulder has fully healed.
“I can confirm that my team has been negotiating with Bob Arum; so far everything is going smooth,” Khan told The National. “The contracts are being negotiated and, if everything is agreed, Manny Pacquiao will be my next opponent.”
Hey, this is promising news. And apparently the pair are also still ‘pals’, which as we all know from past big fight negotiations, always helps. But wait…what Khan quote would be complete with at least one dig at Floyd Mayweather?
“I know Manny. He is my friend. We’ve trained and sparred together. He has never ducked or dodged any fighter and I am sure he won’t get scared like Floyd Mayweather and back out.”
And what about Pacquiao’s infamous torn rotator cuff (or dodgy shoulder, if you will)?
“I have been told that Manny … has been given the ‘all clear’ to start training again by his doctor, which is great news. Depending on when he [Pacquiao] and his team feels he could be ready, the fight could be in February or April 2016.”
So there it is. Amir Khan was Bob Arum’s first pick for his aging cash cow, Manny Pacquiao, and so far, he seems to be getting his wish. If this bout materializes, despite Pacquiao’s obvious decline of the past two years, we should see a divide in opinion. Thoughts?
