Man, this fight better get made cos’ Amir Khan is harping on about it on a daily basis to the media. It all comes down to negotiations, which are apparently in good health according to Khan, and whether Manny Pacquiao’s shoulder gets the all clear by early 2016.
“We had the same trainer [Freddie Roach] so as a storyline, it will be a great fight,” Khan told the Daily Mail. “With what I’ve learned in the last few years, I can definitely fight Manny Pacquiao, and beat Manny Pacquiao.
“We’ve done plenty of rounds in the ring together, sparring. No-one’s ever seen the sparring sessions, I haven’t leaked any videos.”
Actually, that’s not entirely true. There was a Khan-Pacquiao sparring session circulating on the internet some years ago. And if my memory serves me well, it was Khan who took the heavier beating.
But, like I said, it was years ago, possibly after Khan had just entered the Freddie Roach stable. A lot has changed since then.
Khan is now 28, and Pacquiao is entering the twilight of his career, about to turn 37 in December. If boxing is all about timing, Khan certainly picked the best time to start chasing a Pacquiao clash. That said, Pacquiao is still a good mover, and hasn’t lost his renowned power. The Filipino legend (a two-armed version, of course) therefore has a good chance of winning.
Chime in with your own thoughts on Amir Khan vs Manny Pacquiao, folks. What’s your take? Or, like me, are you just getting kinda’ tired of hearing about it?
