Ahead of Kell Brook’s looming third IBF title defense, Timothy Bradley has warned the Sheffield fighter should not overlook Diego Chaves. Bradley, who fought to a Split Draw against Chaves last December, put out his warning in a recent press release.
“It’s a tough fight for Kell Brook,” Bradley assured. “He doesn’t realize that. Diego Chaves is underrated. He had a few opportunities and came up short but the guy can box and he can fight on the inside.”
Bradley isn’t far wrong there. Chaves can box, brawl, and has proven he can hang with top opposition. The 29-year-old Argentine is also a disciple of ‘rough-housing’, shall we say, and isn’t afraid to spoil and throw in an infringement or two.
This could make him very bad news for Brook, who came up against another physically overwhelmingly foe in Shawn Porter back in August 2014. Bradley also recognizes Chaves’ strengths.
“He has good power in both hands and Chaves can mix it up. I think it’s a tough fight for Brook – but if he can get him out of there, then Brook is something special; I can tell you that much!”
“Chaves gave Keith Thurman problems and he gave myself problems and he was giving Brandon Rios problems, too. I think he’s a great fighter. It’s a dangerous fight for Brook.”
Brook vs Chaves is set for October 24th in Sheffield, England, and will air on Sky Sports PPV (Klitschko vs Fury will also be included in the purchase). Brook, our #1 Welterweight, will enter the ring 35-0, 24 knockouts, and Chaves, our #8 Welterweight, 23-2-1, 19 knockouts.
The undercard will also feature a Lightweight 12-rounder between Ricky Burns and Edis Tatli, and Gavin McDonnell and Jeremy Parodi in a Junior Featherweight 12-rounder.
Will Brook’s refined, poised style allow him to overcome, even knockout Chaves? Or will Brook be dragged into a dog-fight against his will? Brook vs Chaves predictions, people!
