Povetkin vs Wach Boxing Banner - Alexander Povetkin, Mariusz WachThis wasn’t the fight of the evening. No, sir. But as Heavyweight scraps go, it wasn’t all that bad. To be fair, had the scintillating undercard been a little less explosive, Povetkin vs Wach would have seemed a whole lot better.

Anyway, Povetkin vs Wach played out pretty much as expected, with Alexander Povetkin getting the better of a capable yet overmatched Mariusz Wach in just about every round. Despite Wach possessing a solid chin, the punches of Povetkin eventually took their toll, producing a nasty gash under Wach’s eye.

That cut became pretty horrific, and after becoming target practice for far too long, the fight was finally halted in the 12th round. Following the victory, Povetkin now rises to 30 wins, 1 defeat, 22 knockouts, while Wach drops to 31 wins, 2 defeats, 17 knockouts.

So, should the bout have been stopped? Oh, absolutely. And does Povetkin now deserve to receive a call from Deontay Wilder? Yes, why not? Povetkin wasn’t devastating tonight per se, but he worked his way inside effectively, mixed up his body-head attack well, and did, after all, score his fourth consecutive knockout.

Wach had his moments in the fight, particularly with the jab early on, and did cause his own cut of the fight, courtesy of a right-hand in the 4th. Povetkin sustained a nick under his left eye following the blow, but luckily for him, the affliction didn’t become too much of a problem down the stretch.

Give us your take on Povetkin vs Wach, boxing fans. And of course, the mightily impressive, knockout-loaded undercard featuring Denis Lebedev vs Lateef Kayode, Rakhim Chakhiev vs Ola Afolabi, Dmitry Kudryashov vs Olanrewaju Durodola, and more!
