In what seems like a terrible joke, Mosley vs Mayorga II could well be a PPV event costing the public $49.95. What boxing fan in their right mind would pay for this contest is quite the mystery. ‘Battle of the Ages’ would seem an appropriate tag line for this August 29th match-up, folks.
ESPN’s Dan Rafael (@danrafaelespn) recently tweeted:
“I’m told 8/29 Mosley-Mayorga 2 is at The Forum in Inglewood, $49.95 PPV. Will be hard sell w/ SantaCruz-Mares same night on ESPN at Staples.”
Shane Mosley and Ricardo Mayorga don’t deserve to be ripped into, but placing a price tag on their rematch could prove disastrous – especially as it’s taking place on the night as Leo Santa Cruz vs Abner Mares. For the record – like you need to be taught to suck eggs – Cruz vs Mares is the more appealing.
It’s not really worth exploring Mosley and Mayorga’s recent activity in the ring. Let’s just say both are well into the twilight of their careers, with Mosley having won only once in his last six fights. After a brief and unsuccessful MMA campaign, Mayorga clocked up two un-noteworthy boxing wins.
Mosley vs Mayorga will be at Light Heavyweight. If you’re interested.
If the cringe-worthy bout really will carry the $50 bucks price tag, will you be coughing up? Let us know how much you’re relishing the fight.

It’s hardly breaking news, and not exactly shocking that Victor Ortiz is also bad-mouthing an alleged Mayweather vs Berto clash. The Welterweight contender – who fights sometimes when not making geriatric action movies and stuff – told TMZ his thoughts on the fight.
“That’s embarrasing, bro,” said the former Mayweather victim. “That’s not even a fight. If anything dude, they both need to retire, or at least Floyd needs to give me some kind of a chance to redeem myself. I have no respect for that, I have no respectful reply for that.”
Ortiz is right in condemning the fight, but is dreaming if he think he deserves a rematch. Boxing fans will remember how the Californian fighter was outclassed and eventually knocked out via a sucker punch in their 2011 bout. The infamous knockout came shortly after Ortiz provoked Mayweather with an intentional head butt.
Mayweather vs Berto isn’t official as of yet. In the meantime, let’s just pray it’s some kind of exhaustive PR stunt.
