Mayweather vs Berto - Floyd Mayweather vs Andre Berto is now officialNews of this potential match-up seemed like some kind of bizarre PR stunt in its infancy, but believe us when we tell you Mayweather vs Berto is now official. Mayweather will be putting his WBA and WBC Welterweight titles on the line against Andre Berto. And get this, folks: if your butt resides in the US, you gotta pay for the September 12th clash.

Well, no one is being forced to buy the Showtime event, supposedly Mayweather’s last hurrah in boxing. Usually it’s hard to turn away from a Mayweather event no matter who the guy is the fighting – but you get the sense this is one some people will be able to resist.

Berto (30-3-0, 23 KO), a former 147 pound champ, is a capable fighter, and our disappointment in his involvement isn’t personal.

It’s just that, you know…Mayweather (48-0, 26 KO) is arguably the most skilled fighter of his generation. And Berto is a guy who’s been in wars with guys Mayweather whopped. You know, 3rd tier fighters like Robert Guerrero and part-time fighter Victor Ortiz

But what’s the point in getting worked up about this ‘thing’? Mayweather vs Berto is on, and will be headlining at the MGM Grand Arena, Vegas. Oh, and Britain’s George Groves will be challenging Mayweather Promotions‘ WBC Super Middleweight champ, Badou Jack, in the co-feature.

Perhaps Mayweather, his team, Showtime and co are expecting people to cough up given Groves vs Jack could turn into something rather absorbing? So now the big question: will you be watching?
