Mayweather vs Berto perhaps isn’t the ‘Floyd Farewell’ fans were hoping for, but it will be unfolding soon, nonetheless. Mayweather is of course the undefeated pound for pound king of boxing, while Berto, though a capable former champion, will be the unmistakable underdog.
But this isn’t about predictions or opinions. This is about numbers – the facts and stats of both men prior to fight night. If you can’t get enough of statistics, be sure to check out our other recent Extended Tale of the Tape editions: Klitschko vs Fury, Golovkin-Lemieux, and Cotto-Canelo.
Note: Advantageous stats are indicated in red (some may be subjective), and championship stats refer to ‘fully-fledged world titles’ only.

Mayweather vs Berto: Summary
There’s a lot of stats to digest there, but the numbers only point to one thing: the odds are stacked against Berto. On paper, Mayweather is the superior fighter without doubt. Most notably, he is undefeated (48-0 – 33-0), has never been knocked down (0 – 6), has completed more 12-rounders (18 – 7), achieved more championship wins (25 – 7) and defenses (18 – 5), and defeated more former/current champions (23 – 5). To top it all off, he has the more advantageous physical attributes – albeit age – such as height (5′ 8″ – 5′ 6.5″) and reach (72″ – 68.5″).
So what does ol’ Berto bring to the table? In terms of trumping Mayweather’s achievements, he doesn’t. He will, however, enter the ring 7 years younger than Mayweather (31-38), and also carry the greater knockout ratio (70% – 54%). If we’re nitpicking, he’s the slightly more dangerous fighter inside 6 rounds (13-11). In terms of trainers, it’s not so much a numbers game as it a matter of opinion; Mayweather may have his famous father/uncle in his corner, but Berto is in very capable hands with Virgil Hunter.
Mayweather vs Berto will headline a Showtime PPV card on September 12th. A broadcaster is yet to be announced for the UK.
