Golovkin vs Lemieux Winner Poll ResultSpoiler alert (?): not one reader voted for a Points victory for either fighter this Saturday night.

Usually the polls at Boxing Base run for a week, maybe a wee bit longer. But for Golovkin vs Lemieux, we felt the need to run it for a whole month. Why? For several reasons. Gennady Golovkin may look like the superior operator on paper, but he’s never danced with a vaunted puncher like David Lemieux. Put simply: one punch could end this affair in an instant.

Golovkin vs Lemieux is an opinion-divider. So we let this poll marinate, sticking around long enough to pick up a very healthy number of votes. And we’re pleased to reveal that over 1000 readers took the time to cast theirs – we thank you all! – ahead of the October 17th Middleweight unification showdown.

So, the obvious question: Who Wins Golovkin vs Lemieux?

And now for the results…

Golovkin to win via Points: 0%

Golovkin to win via KO/TKO: 59%

Lemieux to win via Points: 0%

Lemieux to win via KO/TKO: 41%

I for one am actually quite staggered by the result of this one, folks. For the last week or so, Golovkin via KO/TKO was hanging around the 62-63% mark – but that number ended up falling just before the close of the poll this morning. Now that really is surprising. If anything, I expected GGG via KO to start a steep rise over the past few days. Maybe Boxing Base readers know something I don’t?

If you’re intrigued by these numbers, don’t forget to check out my Golovkin vs Lemieux Tale of the Tape, Facts & Stats. That’s my baby, and is well worth your attention – especially if you’re a statistics-head like me.

The big fight will air on HBO Pay Per View this weekend (like I need to tell you…) and on Boxnation for UK viewers.

Did you find the time to cast your vote? If you didn’t, it’s not too late. Tell me who you see taking the crown of ‘Most Feared Middleweight’ in the comments below. Do you have GGG all the way? Or will Lemieux crash the party with an upset?
