Next weekend is the big one, folks. Top-tier boxer-punchers Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg finally colliding. Both are Junior Featherweight titlists and considered by many, including myself, to be the legitimate front runners of the division. Well, bar Guillermo Rigondeaux who, boxing politics pending, will likely be meeting with the winner of this contest sometime later this year.
Personally, given Rigondeaux has now been stripped of all his titles (due to inactivity), I think the Cuban master will be keen to face the Frampton vs Quigg victor sooner than later. Beating either man would help Rigondeaux’s rep and hopefully bring out the best in him.
But hey, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Frampton and Quigg are unbeaten and yet to really show any glaring weaknesses. OK, Frampton hit the deck a couple of times against Alejandro Gonzalez Jr last July, but I think the Irish favorite was the victim of complacency in that opening round. I guess it’s debatable.
Anyway, I don’t want to get too deep into the details behind Frampton vs Quigg since that’s the point of the Tale of the Tape, Stats & Facts you’re about to soak your brain in. Whatever the result of Frampton vs Quigg, let’s just be thankful we’re getting this super fight – yes, it is one – now instead of several years later.
Note: Advantageous stats are indicated in red (some may be subjective), and championship stats refer to ‘fully fledged world titles’ only.
