At the O2 Arena, London, Terry Flanagan made the first defense of his WBO Lightweight title in emphatic, violent fashion. The Mancunian star took care of business inside 2 rounds. Savage stuff. Period.
After a cagey opener, Flanagan dropped his foe with a solid right-hand in the 2nd. Magdaleno managed to beat the count, and to his credit was still game. But from that moment the power punches kept raining in.
Flanagan pounded Magdaleno with uppercuts and straights, knocking down Magdaleno another two times. Magdaleno regained his feet only to receive more punishment, which prompted the referee to quite rightly save the US visitor from undue suffering.
Wow.
Flanagan now moves up to 29-0, 12 KO, while Magdaleno leaves London with 28-2, 12 KO.
On the undercard, Liam Smith overcame early difficulties with awkward, rangy John Thompson, but caught up in the 6th and 7th, finally delivering the fight-ending concussive blow. Don’t forget to also check out our full Flanagan vs Magdaleno Undercard Report.
