Tyrone Nurse vs Chris Jenkins
At the Manchester Arena, England, Tyrone Nurse outpointed Chris Jenkins to capture the vacant British Junior Welterweight title. Official scorecards came in at 115-112 (twice) and 111-116. This fight had a few close rounds, sure, but Jenkins was more deserving of the nod in this one.
The previously unbeaten fighter dominated the first half of the contest, scored a 5th round knockdown, and held his own down the stretch. Boxing Base scored the fight 115-112 for Jenkins. Nurse and Jenkins are now 1-1 after sharing 24 rounds in others’ company. Nurse now improves to 32 wins, 2 defeats, 1 draw, 6 knockouts, while Jenkins falls to 16 wins, 1 defeat, 1 draw, 8 knockouts.
Ryan Burnett vs Jason Booth
Ryan Burnett scored a shutout decision over Jason Booth to bag the vacant British Bantamweight strap. Scorecards came in at 120-107, taking into account a 1st round knockdown. Boxing Base had no qualms on our card. Burnett looks like a fine prospect, carrying great variety in his repertoire. The fundamentals are there, as is the power and accuracy, but the 23-year-old seemed to make hard work of veteran Booth, 38.
It was of course a personal victory for Booth, who managed to go the full 12. It was gritty stuff. But all in all, this was a weak apetiser prior to the night’s headliner, Crolla vs Perez II. Burnett now jumps to 12 wins, no defeats, 9 knockouts, while Booth drops to 39 wins, 14 defeats, 15 knockouts.
